Never Stop Building

Steps for Life 5K Fundraiser: Building a Culture of Safety On-Site

Our team proudly participated in the Steps for Life 5k walk, supporting Threads for Life, the Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support. Their annual Steps for Life 5k walk raises funds and creates awareness for families affected by life-altering workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths.

As proud sponsors of Steps for Life, we stand behind their mission to build awareness across communities in Canada of creating safe workplaces. This walk not only raised important funds to support these families but gave our team the opportunity to listen and learn impactful stories from families who have experienced the impact of workplace tragedies. These stories served as a reminder to us of the importance of prioritizing health and safety on-site, every day.

Every step we took was a reminder that, behind every statistic, there is a real person, a real family, and a very real story. At Amico, we honour these stories by continuing our mission of building safer workplaces. We know that safety is not just one person’s responsibility, but one we all share. That’s why we encourage anyone who sees something to say something. Whether you observe a potentially dangerous environment or an unsafe action, speaking up helps protect everyone – the people directly involved and those working around them.

Building a culture of health and safety requires the combined effort of all our team members. We’re proud to have made significant strides in advancing our safety management. We achieved our safety goals in 2024 and remain on track for 2025. One of our main goals last year was to increase “near miss” reporting by 50%.  A near miss is an unexpected event that had the potential to cause injury, illness, or property damage but did not. We successfully surpassed our goal of increased Near Miss reporting, increasing by 113%. Understanding where these events occur allows us to identify and assess dangers before they result in injuries. Participating in the Steps for Life 5k walk demonstrates our commitment to raising awareness of the importance of preventative action. At Amico, we’ll continue making safety our main mission and working towards our yearly goals to ensure safe work sites for everyone.
